Next to be planted are dahlia tubers. I have been looking forward to this part for months. I swear I delicately placed each one in their hole like I was placing newborn puppies next to their mamma. I planted 19 tubers. I have a few duplicate types so there are 17 different kinds of flowers. I bought them all from Coseytown and every single one of the tubers was in fantastic condition when they arrived. They stayed in the box they were shipped in inside my garage and were all sprouted when I planted them about 7 weeks later.

I dug a hole approximately 6” deep, placed some Flower-tone in the hole then laid in the tuber, sprout facing up. Each tuber was prestamped with its name, and I labeled each one with a tag. After I covered up the tuber, I did not water them. Based on recommendations from other growers, it is suggested you wait until the growth is above the soil line, so that is the plan. There are two rows of tubers with 14” between each plant in the row. These rows are a bit straighter than my last planting!

Since this is our first year, I am trying to keep my expectations for blooms low, but I have to admit, I’ll be pretty bummed if I don’t get any dahlias.
