In our area, we have many Amish farms which means we have access to lots of farm markets. It truly is fortunate to have access to locally grown produce. While purchasing some annuals from the market for our planters, they were giving away popcorn plants with your purchase. I’ve never grown popcorn, but why not?! I was certain we could find a spot among the flower beds for popcorn. After filling our planters, I found a spot at the end of one of our sunflower rows for the popcorn plants.

Apparently, you are supposed to care for popcorn plants the same way as you do sweet corn. That isn’t necessarily helpful advice for someone who has never grown sweet corn, but with the magic of the internet, I found growing instructions and tips which include heaping the soil around exposed roots when the plants are knee-high. I’m not sure why they would have exposed roots, but ok. Looking at them again, I think I should have more space between the two, so I might have to separate them further, but in 60 to 100 days or so, we should have mature plants. I’ll keep you posted!
